The Teredo Shipworm table! Back in the 1800s when the great voyage across the open oceans was being explored, ships set for sail would disappear without a trace and no explanation, after many attempts to cross the continents the shipbuilders were beginning to doubt their building ability and wondered if it was a problem with the boats. One day while walking the beach and pondering about the great voyage a man kicked a piece of driftwood that had holes through it and, a light bulb went off as he found a reason for the missing ships! It was not the mythical giant kraken nor was it a giant squid or megladon shark. It was the naval shipworms! they were eating the boats and sinking them mid sail in the open ocean. with this discovery, Varnish was created and from then on applied to all wooden boats, to protect them from the worms. and then, at last, Christopher Columbus famously conquered the voyage to the new land!

These logs were retrieved off the bottom of the ocean on the pacific coast. After a long drying period they were milled up into slabs and put in a smoke kiln which sanitizes the wood and rids any bugs / worms.

We then, laminated 4 pieces together, individually filled each hole, then casted the whole table in a translucent blue resin, in resemblance to the ocean. The whole table is fully sealed with chamfered edges and has a top coat of clear epoxy. The epoxy has been polished to a velvety smoothness and glass-like appearance.

Thanks for your interest! Send me a message if you have any questions or a custom table idea. I work with you every step of the way bringing your vision to life. Seed to Sky Wood Co. "You design, we create" custom woodwork.
